The no-concrete paving edging

What is

the Barabas Quick Edge?

The need for durable edging to support paving stones has by now become clear to all. The construction of a concrete edging, traditionally used for this purpose, is extremely time-consuming, as it has to be installed in a concrete bed before the pavers are laid and the paving can only be started once the edging has set. However, there is now an innovative edging method that is fast, cost-effective and environment friendly. This method is Barabas Quick Edging using the Barabas Quick Edge.

Barabas Quick Edging is a new technology for replacing concrete edges, which is used to support the edges of paving stones without the need for concrete.

It can be used with any pavers and flagstones of 5-8 cm thickness, regardless of the manufacturer.

Available in straight and curved designs, it is an aesthetically attractive paving method for almost any paving job.

Its appearance is discreet, is quick to install and has a high load-bearing capacity. Provides stable support to up to 7.5 tonnes of medium traffic load.

It makes the work of paving professionals much easier, reducing construction time by 20-25% and minimising the need for cutting paving stones.

Made from 90% recycled PVC, it is environmentally friendly to install and can be reused several times over its lifetime

How does it work?

The Barabas Quick Edge.

The Barabas Quick Edge is placed directly underneath the pavers, at the same time as they are laid, after the load-bearing layer and the bedding have been formed and compacted, without the need for on-site concreting and the waiting time of several days that is unavoidable with the conventional solution, given the setting of the concrete.

To whom we recommend

the Barabas Quick Edge?

The Barabas Quick Edge is the ideal and durable choice for those who want an invisible paving stone fixing system that requires less material handling, is easier and quicker to install than traditional concrete edging, and is therefore a cost-effective solution.

External fixing of the inverted "T" shaped plastic profile with special nails (required quantity: 2 pcs/m).

Tensioning of the geotextile.

Fixing of the profile on the inside of the geotextile with nails (required quantity: 4 pcs/m).

The laying of the paving stones is completed in the usual way.

Before bending it to an arch, the geotextile and, together with it, the inner flat plastic fixing profile have to be notched in radial direction at equal distances as required by the respective arch. Viewed from above, the geotextile strips thus formed will open radially.

What are the arguments

in favour of the installation of a Barabas Quick Edge?

Unlike concrete edging, plastic Barabas Quick Edge does not suck moisture away from grass and plant roots.

Everyone has seen a paved surface where the concrete garden edging was slightly higher than the paving. Even a moderate rainfall is enough to cause water to pool along the edge. And it is almost natural that when you get out of the car you should step right into the middle of the puddle. This is a situation that can never happen if using the Barabas Quick Edge, because it allows rainwater to drain away.

For many homeowners, it is important that the edge should not be visible next to the paving stone. At present, only Barabas Quick Edge is able to do this while providing a durable support for the pavers.

Curved, winding edges can only be created from 1 metre long straight concrete edging elements with very serious compromises, and the result looks rather like a polygon, and not like an arch.
However, with the curved Barabas Quickt Edge, perfect positive and negative curves can be formed quickly and easily.

By the pressure it develops, water accumulated underneath the pavers causes the bedding to lose its supporting capacity and thus the pavers will give way and sink in even under very small loads. This inconvenience can be avoided by not allowing water to cumulate under the pavers.
There is no more obvious solution for this problem than the Barabas Quick Edge.

One of the major disadvantages of a concrete edging is that it does not allow water infiltrated underneath the pavers to drain away laterally. If the water cannot drain through the base layer, it has no choice but to evaporate from the surface of the paving. Any dissolved substance in the evaporating water, however, will deposit on the surface of the pavers.
With the Barabas Quick Edge, this problem should not even arise, as the water can freely drain away both above and below the Quick Edge.

Paving is typically a dusty and noisy job, especially if the edging and paving stones have to be cut. One of the benefits of installing Barabas Quick Edge is that there is no mess and its cutting is accompanied by only minimal noise. As it is installed at the same time as the pavers, it is easy to create a completely cut-free paved surface.

Although not a very common problem, sometimes the surface originally intended to be paved turns out to be a little wider, a little longer then intended, or should have been laid at a different curve. In the case of concrete edging, subsequent changes are very complicated and expensive.
With Barabas Quick Edge, however, the location, shape and size of the surface to be paved can be easily changed, and at low cost, because all the materials installed can be reused - even several times.
